The Fight for Survival (Gryphon RP - Please join! :D ) Gryphsunset

We thought they were gone...
We were terribly mistaken...

∆ ¥ ∆ ¥ ∆ ¥ ∆ ¥ ∆ ¥ ∆ ¥ ∆ ¥ ∆

Gryphons.

The thought-to-be-dead species. There was a time when gryphons thrived and were proud of their kind. They did as they pleased and there was no fighting. It was like a cornucopia of peace. No fights broke out, and every creature was happy. The gryphons were all part of the Tribe of the Blue Moon. Two gryphons ruled, both of royal blood, the "King" and the "Queen" you could call them. They were regarded with the utmost importance, They led the gryphons throughout the years. The Queen of the Tribe was called Teresa. She was a beautiful silver and black gryphon, her coat a very rare color. The King of the Tribe was called Forrest, and had a coat of pure brown. They were a perfect match, and ruled fairly throughout their lives. It wasn't long though before something happened. Everyone knew that things couldn't last like this forever. There must be some catch that was still to be know. And that catch, came one day. It came a little too soon for everyone. The King and Queen were going to have a daughter. Everyone was overjoyed about this, seeing as the Princess would take place of the Queen when she died or retired, and a King would be chosen no sooner than when she was born. It was how it was in the gryphon society. Royalty's couples were decided at birth, as sometimes were other gryphon's mates. The King was overjoyed when he heard this from Teresa. They all lived in anticipation to the day when the Princess would be born. But only a few months after the exciting news, something terrible happened.

The King, became deathly ill. The sickness was unknown. No one knew what it was, but it tore him down from the inside. The gryphons who were advanced in medicine did everything that they could for him, but it was hopeless. Forrest, the King of all gryphons died in a span of five days. The King's body was buried underneath the tree where him and Teresa had met for the first time. Teresa, anguished and torn down from her mate's death, went into a silence that lasted for days, weeks, months. She allowed only few to talk to her, and she didn't give out any orders at all. The camp of the Tribe of the Blue Moon was deadly quiet for this whole time. They were surprised at the King's death, and didn't know what to do. The King had been very much loved, and it was a shock that he wouldn't be there anymore. The gryphons milled about their territory, unsure of what to do next, mourning for the King's death, for they had no other task to take their mind off of the brown heroic gryphon King. Three months after the King had died, the Queen gave birth to a beautiful brown she-gryphon with deep amber eyes. The Tribe's spirits were partly lifted now that there was something to think and talk about. They told the Queen how lucky she was, but the Queen still was somewhat dead to the world, her mind shut down from the death of her beloved. She focused on the truth that her small little daughter would never see her father. Even though she felt depressed, Teresa poured her love into the little Princess, nurturing her, caring for her, trying to forget about the absence of her mate.
The Princess, named Akemi which means 'bright and beautiful', had her mate chosen from the start, even though it was a bit delayed since there was such a sullen atmosphere and they almost forgot. Most called her "Emi" or "Little Emi" for a nickname since Emi means 'beautiful blessing'. She was developing every second, and her mother took great care over her and was protective of her daughter. Everyone was excited and most tried to forget about the loss of the King. Everything was going okay, but not totally fine. In a little bit though, everyone knew that this whole dilemma would be forgotten and then a fresh start would appear. Everything went downhill from there.

It wasn't too long after Akemi had been born when it started. One of the gryphons in the camp, a Knight, or a Warrior of the Tribe started to seem sick. He limped where he went, he had heavy breathing, he was an unnatural color, he had trouble flying, and he had a persistent cough. A few other gryphons had these symptoms too, a few worse than others. One by one, the symptoms started to get noticed more and more. It sent of a little uneasiness at first throughout the Tribe, but then it caused shock and alarm when one day, they found the Knight called Lief, dead. Everyone was scared as they noticed that more and more gryphons had the deadly disease. The medicine gryphons tried everything they could, but one by one, the disease claimed more souls. It was turning into a plague. Everyone started to fuss over the Queen and her daughter, hoping against hope that neither of them would contract the disease and die. The deaths grew larger and larger, until, only in less than 4 weeks, the gryphon species' numbers were reduced by half. But for some reason, none of the gryphon babies, or kits, were getting sick. It seemed that they would die the quickest, but they were somehow resisting. Only one of the kits had been a victim to the sickness so far, out of around 6 kits. The Queen wasn't taking any chances though. She called to her Russet, an old ginger-pelted she-gryphon. Russet was one of her most faithful gryphons that she relied on to look after Akemi when she needed time alone, away from her daughter.

Teresa told Russet to take Akemi with her and fly to the mountain range in the distance and find a place to take shelter. Then she said that when the sickness passed, then she'd send a messenger to her, telling her that it was safe to come back. The old gryphon, never one to disagree with Teresa, dutifully took Akemi and flew for days straight to the Alparian Mountains where she found a cave and settled down with the kit. Meanwhile, back at the camp, an unknown kind of gryphons were starting to invade. They were part of a rouge band that had started to form together, and weren't kind at all, ruthless and merciless. But they didn't want to take over. Their only joy was killing, seeing others in pain, spreading destruction. Out of the little few who were left from the sickness, they were killed by the dark gryphons. They had no name to their tribe-like group though. They were only a band of vicious fighters. One of the last gryphons to die was Teresa. The leader of the band, a large black gryphon named Stain was the one who killed her. He knew that she was the leader the way the others were defending her. Slashing at the Queen, he sunk his beak deep into her throat. The female gryphon struggled only for a few moments until she went limp. The black gryphon had announced "The battle is won! The last of the royalty is dead!" and the other gryphons screeched in triumph. What the dark leader didn't hear was Teresa's last words which were barely a whisper...
"You loose Stain... You loose..."
In the mountains, which then turned into months, but the messenger never came. Russet wasn't going to turn against Teresa's last wish though, so she stayed put, talking to the kit and teaching her what she knew. She also knew that the kit would probably never remember this. It just helped to reassure the old gryphon and give her something to do. After the seasons changed to Fall, Winter came hard and fast. The entrance was blocked one day by an unexpected snowstorm. Russet scrambled against the entrance but it was all in vain. It wasn't long before Russet died, half from old age, half from starvation. The kit was left in there, alone, confused, and hungry. Akemi went into a deep unconsciousness from no food and limited oxygen that was running out fast. The sleep went on for 6 months. It didn't seem possible to one, but gryphons were built for this, and were able to maintain sleep for very long periods of time. They do this so that either resources such as air don't run out, or to be able to ignore unbearable pain.

The young Princess woke up to a new world where everything was quiet. She sat in the cave for days, not daring to venture outside even if the entrance wasn't blocked. She survived off of roots and slept for most of the time. The messenger never came... Somewhere out there was the abandoned camp of the Tribe of the Blue Moon, quiet, eerie, and uninhabited. A small number of the gryphons survived, but they hid in caves or stayed in very remote areas, so everyone thought that they were all dead, killed by the disease. It is only now that they start to come out, but their past is unknown. To them, there never was a tribe of their species. To them, the Tribe of the Blue Moon never existed. All of these loners and free fighters are eager to fight. It is up to them to get rid of the terrorizing band under the lead of Stain, to form, remember, learn, and teach the former customs of the Tribe of the Blue Moon, and to recreate what had been left to die.

The Territory

The land in which the Tribe of the Blue Moon lived in was widely spread out, and had many different surroundings. The remnants of the Tribe live in all of these places, the labels of the different territory parts different for each gryphon. One may call the grassy plains 'the flats' while another will call it 'the golden sea' Everything varies. Here is the land. Each gryphon is pretty good at adapting to their surroundings.

The River
'The Snake' 'The Ribbon' 'The Way'

The River is a long stretch of water that travels throughout all of the territory, down from the mountain in a huge waterfall and through the valleys and forests as a river. The scenery around it changes a lot as you walk along and it can be seen as a long stretch of water, winding it's way through the territory like a snake, hence the nickname 'The Snake'
Here is The River
River No. 1 - Leafy Forest
River No. 2 - Leafy Forest 2
River No. 3 - Rocky shore near cliffs
River No. 4 - Marshes
River No. 5 - Waterfall
River No. 6 - Waterfall 2
River No. 7 - Waterfall 3
River No. 8 - Waterfall 4

The Camp
'The Clearing' 'The Glen' 'The Cove' 'The Safety' 'The Graveyard'

The Camp, the place where the Tribe of the Blue Moon used to live. The Camp, where Akemi was born. The Camp, where Teresa was murdered. This place isn't totally seen as a camp to most gryphons now. It seems apparent that someone used to live there, but doesn't anymore. There seems to be an eerie feeling about it that no one really wants to discover. It is the place that the rebuilding of the Tribe will start.
Here is The Camp
Camp No. 1 - Clearing/Marsh
Camp No. 2 - Clearing/Play Area
Camp No. 3 - Field/Training Area
Camp No. 4 - Sleeping/Resting/Main Camp
Camp No. 5 - Pond

The Forest
'The Green' 'The Woods' 'The Monster' 'The Refuge'

The Forest is a large part of the territory, covering about more than one third of it all. The Camp is also part of The Forest. The River snakes through The Forest. The Forest is where most gryphons hunt and take refuge when it rains. There are some burrows/caves along the way, here and there. But most gryphons sleep in trees, so they don't use them to sleep in unless it's bad weather out.
Here is The Forest
Forest No. 1 - Fern Clearing
Forest No. 2 - Hunting Grounds
Forest No. 3 - Small Clearing
Forest No. 4 - Dried Up Creekbed

The Rocky Valley
'The Desert' 'Death Valley' 'The Dustbowl' 'The Deathbowl'

This place is desolate. Deserted miles of rocky/sandy ground. It's kind of like a desert, the sand whipping around in your eyes. There's no water around here, everything's dry, thus there being no plants or shade. It's odd, how the forest suddenly just cuts into this large span of dry sand and rock. No gryphon likes to stay down there, because it's hot, dry, and it goes on forever. Most gryphons just pass over it. The closest gryphons get to being near it is when they fly over it.
Here is The Rocky Valley
Rock Valley No. 1 - Path into the Rocky Valley
Rock Valley No. 2 - Hillside
Rock Valley No. 3 - Overlook

The Mountains
'The Cliff' 'The Speed Bump' 'The Rocky Hill'

The Plains
'The Flats' 'The Greenery' 'The Slopes'

The Plains are a large span of grass on gently rolling hills here and there, but it's mostly flat. Off in the distance you can see the mountains. The Plains are about a half as big as The Forest is. Some parts the grass is green, some other parts the grass is savannah. The Plains connect with The Rocky Valley, and it connects with the gold grass of savannah.

My Characters

Username: The Otter
Name: Kira
Gender: Female
Age: 15 and a half
Personality: Kira is a curious gryphon, eager to learn new things. She's pretty talkative to others even though she hasn't really met too many of her kind in her whole life. She's bold and adventurous, eager to help and jump to aid someone. She's trusting and kind, and takes the time to listen to someone if they're trying to talk to her, even though she can sometimes get easily distracted. She has a hard time making logical decisions, and instead, is instantaneous, making ideas and thoughts one after another. She's a strategic planner when it comes to fighting and has a great imagination. She loves to have fun and will look out for other friends if they're being attacked or bothered. Kira often likes to make comments and jokes around in sarcastic insults. Life is a big joke to her. She always makes witty comebacks and her sharp tongue is put to great use when she's annoyed or just whenever. She often renders others helpless with most of her comebacks. Sometimes Kira feels like there needs to be someone older than her to guide her since she's so reckless and impulsive, but there seems to only be young gryphons around, and that doesn't help her. She'll just have to tutor herself.
Looks/Appearance: Kira(click)
Rank: BLANK FOR NOW D8
Tribe/Group: The Tribe of the Blue Moon
History: Kira woke up in a cave during springtime. She had no recollection of who she was, what happened before for her to get there, and what she was doing there. She has no idea that she was and is a princess and is of royal blood, and she didn't even know what her name was. She named herself Kira, since she liked that name. After much courage, she walked out of the small cave and into the sunlight. She started to learn how to get food by catching beetles, and then after that, she learned how to hunt by teaching herself. She somehow has the jist of everything that she has to do to survive, and she taught herself very quickly how to fight too, making up her own moves. She tries to remember what her past is like, but she can never remember.
Family: Dead/Unknown
Crush: None, looking
Mate: None, open

Username: The Otter
Name: Xavier
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Personality: Xavier is quite the flirt. Bold and mischievous, he loves to tease other boys and cause mayhem. As I said, he loves to flirt with female gryphons and is very dashing. Even though he fools around a lot, he is a good hunter and flier, along with him being a good fighter. He's been a loner ever since he can remember, and likes to be around others. He's never really found a girl that could handle his constant fun though. Some could say that he's crazy at times when he feels really happy. Being funny and joking around is the thing he loves best. You just can't take him seriously. But when someone is in trouble, you see a totally different side of him with some peeking through. He can't help but make jokes here and there if fighting, but the jokes are about deadly stuff, or they're just serious. He can be incredibly concerned if someone he loves/is friends with, is hurt. He also looks out for others.
Looks/Appearance: Xavier(click)

Username: Rocketai
Name: Heinkel
Gender: Female (but acts like a male)
Age: 15
Personality: Heinkel is serious and rarely talks. Because of this, she is most of the time in the corner of some cave, or in the woods listening to the sound of birds, ignoring everything around her. She doesn't like the fact of her being a female because most of the male gryphon treats her like a fragile kit that can't hunt and it only exist to take care of the other kits. This thought disgusts her and she wants to be respected like a male gryphon. But one thing is for certain: Heinkel always keep her promises, so she's very trustworthy.
Heinkel is not a very good fighter, but making her angry can make the agressor receive pretty deep wounds from the she-gryphon. She loves to fly and "swim" between the clouds, specially when it's raining, because she's a very good flyer.
Looks/Appearance: Click
Rank: I HATE BLANK!! D8
Tribe/Group: Unknown (depends on which side Heinkel befriends with, but she keeps around the soon-to-be Tribe of the Blue Moon since she woke up near them, so she is still kind of fond of them)
History: RP later.
Family: Dead/Unknown
Crush: None/Open
Mate: None/Open
Kits: None
Other: None

Username: Rocketai
Name: Lockstep (or just Locke)
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Personality: Even though he has a wicked and threating appearance, Lockstep is pretty silly and playful. He loves to joke around and sleep late on the highest tree he can find. Even though most gryphon suspects him of being from Stain's band, he's still a gentleman and doesn't care much about gossips of his evil-like appearance. Behind all this fun and childish attitude, Locke is pretty good-fighter and can endure any attack and still kick some arses before going down. However, Lockstep doesn't like violence and always keeps his nose away from violent people, but he'll risk his own life to save innocent gryphons.
Looks/Appearance: CCCLLLLIIIICCCCKKK
Rank: BLAAAAAAANK! *dies*
Tribe/Group: Lockstep will no doubt join the Tribe of the Blue Moon, since him himself volutarialy joined the soon-to-be tribe, offering help. That is why most gryphons are suspected of him.
History: Lockstep doesn't reveal much. He only says that it's a pretty boring background and admits that he was a loner.
Family: Unknown
Crush: None/Open
Mate: None/Open
Kits: None
Other: None

| Kira |

Streaks of mist shined gold and silver in the sunlight as it hung over the trees and into the sky of the early morning. A faint cool breeze shifted the clouds over to the right and the left, separating them, then joining them together again. The sun hadn't fully risen yet, the blazing orb still a semi-circle of orange hues in the distance, just resting on the horizon, creating a beautiful and graduate sunrise. The treetops in the distance were a hue of light green, illuminated by the morning light. The trees closer to the mountain contrasted those closer to the rising sun, their leaves a shade of dark emerald, hiding from the low sun's warm gaze in the valley that the peaks of the Alparian Mountains sloped down to. This spectacle was a magical one that I witnessed every single morning, and I never got tired of it. The shimmering colors had always captivated my eye, and the warmth of the sun as it rose and the cool of the breeze created the most peaceful setting ever.

Placing my left paw over my right paw to make myself more comfortable, I stared out at the peaceful scene. I knew I was lucky to be able to see this. Most other creatures never got a view this beautiful. The cool breeze ruffled my neck fur and I stretched happily and stood up. Others like me would have probably wanted to sit around and enjoy the sunrise. Or at least... If there were others like me. I had never known or met any other of my kind, so I kind of assumed that I was the only one. But once or twice I had heard a few noises in the woods, or seen something flying in the distance that looked like a bird. I couldn't help but wonder if I was the last one of my kind or not. I usually did what I fancied all the time, and right at the moment, I fancied getting up and going out on a little flight. First I would have to get to the ledge a little ways up the mountain to lift off. I could just launch myself from the cave I was in, but I liked the majestic feeling of shooting off from a ledge and into the sky. Standing up to shoot out my front legs and grip the earth, I stretched and then stood up, shaking my head back and forth to make my fur fall in it's usual place. Then I started to walk out into the sun, the ball of fire in the distance a little bit higher than it had been only five minutes ago. Soon enough it would uptake it's usual position, high in the sky, shining down on everything.

Jumping behind a rock in order to enter a small secret path that only I knew to the ledge, I started into a little jog. It was like this almost every day, waking up to all kinds of weather and then going out for a morning fly. It kind of was sad that I did this every day, never meeting anyone. But besides, I had never met anyone in my whole life. As I climbed the steep slope to the ledge, I reflected on the first gloomy days of what I remembered. The first thing I could ever remember was waking up in a dark cave, trapped by snow, with an old skeleton by the corner of the wall. I knew I had been scared as anyone would be, but even more so, I didn't remember anything. My name, my heritage, my history. My mind was blank. The only thing that I knew was that I was trapped. Then when the snow had finally melted away and I was free, I started a new life. It was kind of weird to go throughout your life without knowing what happened when you were a baby. I tried to put it aside, but sometimes the fact that I didn't know, drove me crazy. I longed for someone to talk to, but I doubted that I would ever find someone otherwise than myself.

The feeling of firm rock underneath my rough paws alerted me that I was at the ledge. Glancing over the valley, I took a few steps towards the edge and then shot myself off of it with a powerful push with my hind legs, my amber and brown wings almost instantly unfolding. I dropped a few feet, and then shot up into the air as a breeze filled up under my wings. Wind whistling in my ears, I soared into the sky, doing a dive bomb towards the trees and then went down a notch to a slower speed, gliding right above the treetops. I never really had the coaching of an adult, so I guess you could say I make reckless decisions. A few times I had wondered what happened if you tried to shoot down into the leaves and then pull up again. It didn't end well. I never thought much about confusing things because it hurt my head to try. I knew that I had a brain even though at times it felt like I didn't, but still, I hadn't been coached to use it. Or at least, no one taught me to use it well.

Glancing around, I narrowed in on a landing spot, a thin-looking foliage patch. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any branches there, and I would land smoothly after going through the leaves. Without a second thought, I hurled myself through the trees. The space below me was empty and I fell to the grassy ground, smells of dirt all around me. I landed in a twisted position, my wings flapping in the air, my neck bent, my back on the ground, my feet up in the air. Flipping myself right side up, I glanced around. The valley's forest was where I loved to be when needing something to do. Trotting through the grass, I glanced around at the sights, sounds, smells. I wondered what it would be like if there were more of my kind. Would we have remained the way that I feel like we are, separated? I always thought of myself as kind of a loner, but yet wishing that I had friends. Would other gryphons like me not feel that way, and stay apart, even worse, kill each other? I shook it off easily. I didn't have time to think about that. I was going to go to the river.

(Sorry, don't have enough time for Xavier. D:
I'll post him soon. Don't worry.
Argh. This is a fail post. If I wasn't lacking creativity it would be longer, but I guess I'll just have to stick with plain giving background on the character before going further into the action.)

(Geez, Otter, you never stop to amaze me... )

**Heinkel**

It was all dark... What was that place? Heinkel continued to wonder. Everything was... Black. Was it a sin? Was she killed? Is this what they call "life-after-death"? However, this isn't what she heard... Why she felt... Cold? Scared? "NO!!" she screamed to herself. "I won't be scared of this! I'm tired of all this!!" she continued screaming, but to who? She felt like she was going crazy, nothing made sense... Who was her? What was her purpose? ...What's her name?

.
.
.
.
.

"Huh...?" light painfully penetrated Heinkels esmerald eyes like a knife. She quickly shielded her eyes and tried to remember what she was doing. She slowly took her paw away from her head and looked around. "Spirits... What was in my head last night?" she mumbled when she noticed that she was on the very top of the tree she usually uses to sleep. Any other movement and she could have fell right on her sleep.

**Locke**

"Here you go, children!" happily said a black-orange coloured gryphon while handing some fresh meat to the kits.
"Hey, you!" another gryphon came running towards Lockstep and the kits that were feasting on the recently caught meat "Stay away from the kits. You are allowed to live here temporaly, but no one gave you permission to feed the young with your wicked claws"
Locke didn't even look offended. He kinda understood the tension of the gryphons, because of Stain's brood. "Don't worry, fine feathered friend, your young are in no danger by my wing." he answered, ignoring the threating position the other gryphon was showing.

There he is... I have to move carefully...
Maybe I can move now...
No wait! Now he's gotten a little farther away...
I have to plan again...
Ooh! He's closer now the nasty little bugger!
Lemme see... How to do this...
Argh! Just get it over with!
Should I go now?
Oh no! He's going away!
Should I go now or should I- Too late!

Waggling my haunches I launched myself out of the bushes, my body ruling over my mind. If I had a mind that is. And if I did, I think that it didn't really work that well. My paw smacked down onto the ground and I stayed still, staring at my paw in concentration as if I could see through it. Slowly and carefully after a few seconds, I lifted my paw up. There was nothing there. Suddenly I saw a small movement out of the corner of my eye and I jumped at it, pouncing in the air in the shape of an arch to land with both front paws smack down on my quarry like a little kit. A small black dot crawled quickly from underneath my paws. Not about to give up chase, I leaped after it, never taking my eyes off of the small speck. Suddenly it took off into the air and I went cross-eyed as I tried to track it. Swiping a large clumsy paw in the air, I hooked it towards me but it got out of my grasp. Trying to follow it made me dizzy, and suddenly I flopped down onto my side, tired of the chase. Rolling over onto my back, I stared up at the small patch of sky that I could see from between the tree leaves. Of course, I could be doing better things. Helpful things that is. I could be hunting. I could be practicing my fighting skills. I could be practicing my flying skills. I could be practicing moving quietly. I could be practicing landings and take offs. But no. Here I was, chasing a bug. How wonderful life was, where you could do anything that you wanted. I knew that it would probably be a whole lot better to be practicing at least something, but practicing things made me bored. I had no patience. Besides, I already knew how to hunt kind of sort of. Uh... Well, I guess you could just say that I couldn't hunt well. But I'm working on it! Besides, chasing bugs help my... uh... visionary skills! Yes! Visionary skills. It helped me be able to focus in on something and track it with my eyes. It also helped me get out of practicing other stuff... But that doesn't matter does it?

Flipping back onto my four paws, I glanced around. There were no more bugs in the area to stalk, so I started off in a little trot. I didn't really know where I was going, but I was just wandering. It's not fun to know where you're going. Just let your paws take you, and that's when it gets fun. I guess you could say that I have a short attention span, and when I do actually have attention, it's the attention of a kit who's sat too long at a lecture. I kind of always had to be active, or else I might go crazy. I loved to jab fun at people too, but no one was ever around. It's kind of sad, because I always come up with these great insults, but no one to use them on. Insults or jabs, I loved to say things. So I usually find myself ending up talking to a fly or something and insulting it, jabbing fun at it, only to know that it probably doesn't know that I'm even there. I wasn't too great with my flying skills, or at least, I never really knew what I was doing. When I took off into the sky or jumped from a ledge, I just ended up drifting around in circles on the air currents, not even knowing too much how to steer. I know that it's probably supposed to come naturally, but that natural-ness wasn't coming at the right time I guess... I always wished that there was someone around... Suddenly on an impulse, I jumped into the air and drifted over the grass for a few meters, maybe 10 meters, and then touched down again. I did this again and again, gaining more land over shorter time. I didn't know where I was going, but still. Going faster always felt better. Maybe I'd go to the river... That'd be fun. I kind of was thirsty, but it didn't seem fanciful at the moment to go get kind of wet... Maybe I could go tree-hopping. That'd be fun. I loved to jump from treetop to treetop, able to see a field of waving green leaves, not knowing where, at any moment, you could fall in. I loved to go tree-hopping because you had to have quick reflexes to do it, and I had quick reflexes alright. You also had to make impulsive decisions, and that was what I was made for.

Making up my mind, I leaped at a tree trunk, my claws digging into the bark as I tried in vain to climb up. I made a mental note as my claws slowly sunk into the bark and then I fell to the ground, taking out long lines of wood with me. "Note to self: Work on tree climbing." I grunted, half speaking half thinking. On the second try, I launched myself higher and then grabbed onto a branch. I wondered if there were any others of my kind around, then they would be doing the same thing. Or did I just have different habits than them? I only remembered one gryphon, and that memory was foggy. It was a female gryphon who was an adult, and she had kind of dark brown fur. That's all that I remembered. I had always guessed that she was my mother, but I never knew. Succeeding to get onto the branch, I leaped up more from branch to branch until I popped my head through the foliage. My eyes were met with a gentle breeze, and my eyes slitted momentarily against it, before I got used to it. Pulling the rest of my body up, I settled on the tree top, preparing myself for the mindless activity that I was about to do.

I made quick headway to the river, the map of my home burned into my mind. Over countless years of living here, I had memorized every single landmark, rock, tree and blade of grass. Every place except for The Dustbowl. That place was uncharted, since even I hadn't flown over or around it over 3 times. I knew that it was a bad place, and I didn't like it there. Plus, the sand made me cough and choke. It wasn't long before I heard the familiar sound of rushing water. I was really excited since today was one of those days where it was kind of warm, but with a breeze. Perfect for swimming. I was heading for a pool right underneath a waterfall that was deep enough for swimming. The waterfall was pretty too. I saw the water and without a second thought, hurled myself into the water, my wings tightly pulled against my body to make sure I went straight into the water. I resurfaced after the dark underneaths of the water world, with my vision blocked by something green. A lily pad. I laughed and kept it there, swimming around the pool with my head above the water, with the lily pad on my head. I guess I was glad that I hadn't had any tutoring from anyone. If I had, I doubted that I would have been able to do this freely.

Heinkel quickly flew away from the tree like a plume before it could fall. However, her flight was interrupted by the great sound of a thing broking in half. She looked behind her, fearing the worst, when she noticed that the tree she was lying on suddely fell. "What the..." the young gryphon mumbled to herself, watching in awe as the large tree punched the ground like an angry horse. "I'm... I'm not that fat!" Heinkel screamed, unsure if it was wise to do so, but she was right. Heinkel was never of a big meal eater, so what made the tree fall like that?

Shaking her head and ignoring the cloud of sand that formed around the tree after it fell on the ground, Heinkel decided to fly and exercise her wings. "Strange... I feel like I don't move my wings for an eternity..." she whispered, after her wings had a little difficulty of flapping around. Thinking of land, her thought quickly faded away when she heard the sweet sound of a waterfall and remembered how thirsty she was and having a weird taste on her mouth. Dashing towards the river, she let her wings go numb and fell like a bomb into the beautiful splashes of water... And that wasn't a very nice idea. Heinkel, without noticing, had her head land right on a rock that was blending on the flow of the waterfall. Even before she could do something, Heinkel's mind went blank.

After succefully ignoring the rant of the angry gryphon, Locke decided to stay alone away from the other gryphons. He wasn't sure what he was feeling... Was it sadness? Was he tired? A lot of information went and came on Lockstep's mind, like a big web. When was the last time he ate? Was he really a lone before he found the Tribe? Wait... Was it really him that found the tribe? Or the tribe found him? What was happening? Locke was pretty confused... Why he didn't remember about some details of his life? He should know everything, right? Howev-- "Whoa!" Locke's mind was interrupted by a loud yelp... That was coming from him. He felt his feet getting stuck on an elevated roots of a tree and, right beneath it, there was a ramp, so Locke's heavy body was quickly dragged by the ramp and stuck with his paws on the root. The root was actually pretty strong, and it seemed like it was really strangling Locke's paw, not just got stuck in it! His paws started bleeding when the roots started strangling more and more, while his body was just pending on the ramp. "What a lame way to get smashed..." he sang, trying to ignore the pain.

Diving down into the water and surfacing again, I glanced around the pretty scene. I had always loved swimming, even thought it got my feathers soaking wet, and I couldn't fly very well. All the more, they dried off quickly enough. Surfacing again, I glanced around, then suddenly there was a noise. My ears bent backwards, pressing against my head from the sound. It was a splashing noise, but then it almost abruptly stopped. What kind of creature would be playing in the water near a gryphon? I knew that the animals feared my species, and they knew when one of my kind was near. I stepped out of the water silently and started to creep forward though the grass towards the sound. I held my breath, hoping that I could get a meal from this. Maybe the creature hadn't smelled me, and was stuck in the water. I was somewhat hungry, so I would happily welcome a fresh meal. But what I saw was something I had never really thought I'd see before, and I hadn't seen in my whole life from what I remembered.

The figure of a brown-furred creature was lying, half in the water, it's sides only faintly moving. It's eyes were closed, the brown fur around it somewhat streaked with black. It's black beak partway open. A long, somewhat feathery tail lied in the water, soaked from the rushing liquid. A pair of feathery wings splayed awkwardly by the creature's side. A gryphon. I couldn't believe it. I didn't believe it. This couldn't be happening! I blinked my eyes hard a few times, glancing around. In fact, I even pricked my paw with one of my claws. I couldn't believe this. Since when were there gryphons otherwise than me around here? I didn't even know that I wasn't the last gryphon alive until now! Even though I hadn't been around gryphons for my whole life, I assumed that this was a she-gryphon from the more slim and graceful figure. I was feeling very cautious. Was this some kind of trap? The gryphon looked knocked out though... I didn't know if I should chance moving forward, but I did. Carefully, paw by paw, I walked through the rushing water to the forlorn figure at the other side of the bank. I noticed that the water around the gryphon's head was running red. Red with blood. What happened? How did she get hurt? Did she get attacked? I wondered fiercely. The thought of her getting attacked made me whip around my head, hoping to catch whatever movement of an attacker, but there was none. It was still silent with the somewhat silent rush of water.

Even though I knew that if I moved the gryphon, more blood would be lost, I had to get her out of the water. Her mouth seemed to be partially in the water, and I didn't want her to drown on a small amount of water, or choke. Carefully, I gripped the she-gryphon's back paws and dragged her towards the bank. The blood smeared the grass, leaving a trail of red-stained plants. I glanced around awkwardly, not really knowing what to do now. I had never seen a gryphon, let alone take care of a WOUNDED one. "Um..." I mumbled, glancing around. There wasn't really anything to help. I finally made a decision and picked up some ferns and awkwardly pressed the bundle of greens against the she-gryphon's head wound. The wound in the head was a deep gash, and I assumed from the sharp rocks at the top of the waterfall, that she had somehow accidentally gashed her head on it. Sitting there, glancing around in silence, I felt really out of place. What if this gryphon attacked me when she woke up? What if she thought that it was me that hurt her? So, making sure the ferns were pressed down hard, I walked away about five or ten feet and then lied down there, keeping a close eye on the unconscious gryphon.

I knew that I was pretty stupid for a gryphon my age. I mean, tree hopping? But it's awesome and fun, and you get to practice your landing skills. I leaped through the air, my wings somewhat out, and then landed as lightly as a feather on the next tree. Oh fine. If you want the true description, I landed as heavily as an anvil, and as clumsy as a penguin that was trying to fly. There. Happy? The tree swayed ominously, but I just grinned as it rocked back and forth. I'm not very good at a few things, oh, including keeping balance. So, when I landed on the next tree, I fell through the leaves as the tree rocked and then got caught in a few branches. I stared down at the ground that seemed so far away. My paw was wedged in between some branches, my wings too. "Great. Just great Vier." I mumbled to myself, straining to get near the ground. Carefully, I started to retract my wings, only to wince. "Sore." I grumbled and finally managed to pull them in with much pain. As soon as my wings pulled to my side, all of my body slipped towards the ground, that is, except for my stuck paw. I yelped as my whole body hung in the air, my precarious position only determined by my one stuck paw. I unsheathed my claws and gripped into the branch hard, not wanting to let go and fall to the ground, and experience more pain.

You know how life just sometimes doesn't want you to get things your way? Or, how, life makes branches crack under extreme weight? I'm not heavy, but this was a somewhat tiny branch my paw was stuck in. It wasn't long before I heard cracking noises. I closed my eyes, and then almost instantly, I plummeted. I could have opened my wings, but there wasn't enough space in the confined forest space to unfurl them. Also, I was in a dense part of the woodlands. I landed on the ground with a thump, the branch crashing on top of my body with my paw. I opened my eyes and glared at the branch. "Thank you very much for existing." I said sarcastically and started to gnaw at it. I got most of the branch off, but my paw was wedged firmly. Right now, I had to make do with what was happening, so I started to hobble around. "Not much to do today..." I said unhappily. It was only in the morning too, and I couldn't believe that I had a ton more hours to go through before it was nightfall. "Maybe I should go hunting..." I reflected aloud. At the thought, I agreed. "Yep. Hunting. First to get this off..." I slammed my paw against a tree. It hurt, but the branch shattered to pieces. "Good." I said in satisfaction.

Sounds in the forest were sometimes very hard to track down. They could bounce off of trees and confuse the hunter. I sniffed the air and noticed the scent of deer. Crouching down, I started to go, step by step towards the smell. I was almost at the deer's hooves when I heard a nose. A yelp to be more exact. The deer bounded off into the trees before I could catch it. "Dangit!" I snarled, glancing around. What animal had done that? It sounded somewhat familiar. "Uh, hey. Who's out there that scared my food away?" I called tentatively.
